Live Four” phase.

Estimated attendance: 500.

John had consumed a substantial amount of alcohol the previous night in Copenhagen. His having a hangover explains why this performance is lower-energy compared to most of the other shows on this tour.

I Am Angie Bowie (Sine Waves)

Peter restarts the backing audio track for a few seconds after the song.

The Last Rites of Spring

John: “Silence is singing, silence is singing. The silence is singing, the silence is singing. Silence is singing. The silence is singing. The silence is singing.”

Towards the end, some of the synths used on “Drip Drop” play.

Are You Shivering?

John (after the song): “Thank you very much.”

Amethyst Deceivers

John: “No. No, no, no. We do, did you know we do? You know what we do.”
Audience member: “Please.”
(Audience laughter)
Audience member: “Do it.”

This performances commences with the percussion track.

A Warning from the Sun

John (before the song): “‘A Warning from the Sun.'”

John (after the song): “Thank you.”

Drip Drop

John: “It’s been done [?] and now, been on a long, long, long, long, long question. We’ve been on a long, long, long, long, long journey.”

Whistle, and I’ll come to you [repeated]
Whistle, and I’ll come to you, my lad [repeated]

Whistle, and I’ll cut you
Whistle, and I’ll call to you
Listen, and I’ll calm you
That means the signs
I think it spirals
Without you, it’s the silence [?]
An equation, or an enemy invasion

Whistle, whistle
Listen, and I’ll cut you
I’ll run into you
It’s like a slice of life
The universe is a haunted house
Full of pure, full of pure equations
And animal invasions

Whistle, and I’ll run from you
Listen, and I’ll call to you
A slice from you from the smoking weeds of time

The “Whistle” line is a reference to the M.R. James ghost story “Oh, Whistle, and I’ll Come to You, My Lad”. BBC made two television adaptations in 1968 and 2010 respectively.

Ostia

John: “This is from Horse Rotorvator, and it’s called ‘Ostia.’ Dedicated to the memory of Pasolini.”

John (after the song): “Thank you.”

I Don’t Want to Be the One

John: “Hm.”
Audience members: “Hm!”

Oh, sometimes, sometimes as people put things on you, you don’t really want them to, reflections of things they’ve heard about and read about which we didn’t say, or I didn’t say, and you hear about these things and they get reflected back, and you end up in a situation, I end up in a situation where I don’t know who I am. I don’t know who I am, where I am, what I’ve been. I have a clue, sometimes, I have a clue, sometimes, I have a clue sometimes, I have a clue, sometimes. And I sort of agreed that I would never do this again. It puts me on the spot, in the position again, to generate the strange feeling. But I don’t really wanna be the one. I don’t want to be the one. Sometimes, you just find yourself in a place. People ask me, wanting, believing. And it’s the seasons, indiscretions. What I put important and the confessions you make, but you don’t, the promises you break, you do, and you end confessing things about loved ones to radio stations, and it all reflects in sound waves.

John’s offense at this “confession” to a radio station might be referring to a real event. If I had to guess, I’d say someone in the Coil camp referenced John’s drinking problem in this interview or something like that against his wishes.

John (after the song): “But sometimes, I have to be.”

Bang Bang

John flubs some of the lyrics:

Bang bang, he shot me down
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, my baby shot me down

An Unearthly Red

Audience member: “New York City?”
John: “New York City, yes. How do you know that? [repeated] A quote from the paper: ‘America’s seat of power is an animal in shorts and self-doubt.”

Yes, my father is God
He could be farther from God
He could get further from the truth
Could get further from the truth
If God told him to do it
He’s alive
He is alive
He is a lie, and God told him to do it
And God, God told him to do it

Could it get superpowers?
Could get superpowers
And the president of America wakes up in the middle of the night
With something dripping from his hand
And he’s not sure whether it’s dripping red
Or it’s tripping red
Or his dreaming, or he’s tripping
Or he’s dripping and he’s dreaming
And he’s dripping and he’s screaming
And he wakes up screaming covered in red
Because God told him to do it

Ah, he said God told him to do it
“For my father is God”
“But your mother is a whore
Your mother is a whore
She is the mother of all wars
She is the mother of all whores”

She pours war milk on it
She is the mother of all whores
You’ll pour war milk on it
She will pour war milk on it
“Yes, my mother is a whore”
He said, “My mother is a whore
And my father is God
My father is God, my mother is a whore [repeated]
My father is God, my mother is at war” [repeated]

“My mother is the mother of all wars”
Mother of whores!

He said, it’s what he said
It’s what he did
It’s what he will do
It’s what he did
It’s what they all do
It’s what they wanna do

He wanted jackal by pouring war milk on her
War milk on her
She’s just a whore
She’s the tits of all wars
She pours war milk on it
She’s the mother of all whores
She is the mother of all whores

Won’t you too?
(Indecipherable)
He said, “God’s still him to do it!”
Won’t it skim [?]

John’s closing words: “Thank you very much. That’s it; thank you for coming. Thank you for letting us be here. Thank you, goodnight.”
Audience member: “Thank you!”

AUD #1 – Jan Bruun

Source Quality Complete Length Lowest Gen Comments
AUD #1a 8-/10 No 73 min M0 (?), FLAC Jan Bruun believes the FLAC circulating is straight from his master, but admits it's possible he made a cassette copy for a friend which the FLAC files were then made from; I have seen others claim the FLAC is actually M2. Good sound, but hissy. Internal cut on "The Last Rites of Spring," due to Bruun taking a bathroom break. The beginning of track 7 cuts to hiss and has channeling issues before resuming its proper mix.
AUD #1b 7/10 No 72 min M?, WAV Surfaced September 20, 2020 (thanks, Christophe). Unofficial remaster of AUD #1a, with less stereo separation, more peaking, more hiss, and fake echo applied. The intro to "Ostia" is edited around the channel imbalance. Released on the metal box CDr bootleg Live in Oslo.
SBD #1 ? ? ? ? 24-digital multitrack. Confirmed to exist by Andy Ray. Remains unsurfaced.
